baby, you can drive my car
And now, thankfully, so can I. It's been a couple of weeks since the accident and while I am still mourning the lost of my little, black Civic it does feel pretty good to have a car in the driveway again. I was really hoping that my Civic was fixable. When the insurance guy called to give me the news that it was a write-off his comment was "your car is a lot shorter than it used to be" and I knew the Civic just wasn't coming home.
I've spent the past couple of weeks doing paper work and making trips to ICBC. There is something undeniably depressing about being handed a bag with the leftovers from your car in it. But it's all done now. There will be other Civics.
In the meantime, I am now the proud owner of a 05 Nissan Sentra. So far its lived up to everyone's expectations and is a solid little car. I'm starting to warm up to it. I bought my Civic while at University so it was a base model. Standard transmission. The only "extra" I put in it were floor mats. The new car has toys. And it turns out, I kinda like toys.
By far the funniest thing that has happened was when I brought the car home and realized that it is EXACTLY the same colour as my cat. The photo to the right has not been Photoshopped in any way. I swear I didn't do that on purpose. (Although during test drive the car did feel oddly familiar...) I haven't taken it fast enough to see if it purrs yet. All in good time.

yipee, new car! we already have the first work trip planned for you. check work email.
btw, i believe that's hex #BBBEC7 grey, or RGB 187/190/199. but of course, i could be wrong as it's hard to tell exactly with mr. bigglesworth there creating shadows and stuff.
Oh claire, matching your kitty to your car. Admit it, you had kitty in one of those clever little carrier bags while shopping and would sneak kitty out for a peek every now and then!
So... i want to know more about the toys? CD player i imagine! And what else? Is it great on gas? Are you saving the world one car at a time (well, that we know, cannot really happen.. a little oxymoronic (is that a word? Can i put perenthasis inside perenthasis? Did i spell perenthasis correctly? ))??
It is about 11:45, please accept my appologies for this post!
Janie
What a great car - AND it matches your cat - how chic! Does that mean that kitty gets to travel with you as an accessory now?
Seriously though it looks fantastic and I'm totally with you regarding those toys. We hardly ever buy new but its been great having heated seats, power windows, CD players, central locking etc. that someone else has paid top dollar for.
Enjoy your car, take lots of road trips. I'm so glad that your accident didn't result in you being emotionally unable to drive again. (You'd be surprised how often that happens). I'm sure all those prayers helped majorly.
Much love, Mom & Dad XX
Look at you all grown up! The last time you got a car I seem to remember doing all the talking to the big bad saleman and getting you those car mats thrown in for free (oh yeah, check out those negotiation skilz) Good for you for sorting it all out yourself. I hope that this car grows on you and that it gets you from A to B in style. I was convinced that it was going to be red, but that's just because I think that I've only ever seen a Sentra in red. I wouldn't recommend trying to colour match your cat to your car if the next one is red. Hopefully we'll be posting pictures this weekend so check us out.

@ Janie - it's got AC, CD, power windows and doors and my favoritest thing of all remote keyless entry!! Whoo hoo. I'm still figuring stuff out (like what that little red light on the dash means). I'm still waiting to get the manual but it should be here in a few days. It is great on gas too, just about the same as my Civic. It's fairly small which is good because for the most part it's just me driving to work and such.
@Mark I *do* remember you doing all the legwork for my last car. That was so great. I was going to call you for advice (remembering your mad negotiating skilz) but the time diff is killer.
I did the grown-up thing and hired an autobroker. He goes to my church and is a friend of Judy's family. It was great I told him what I was looking for and he went and found it. All I had to do was show up for the test drive. When I went to buy the car the guy doing the sale really reminded me of Ian -- remember him from youth group way back when? He was super outdoors-y. Wonder what he's up to these days.
Anyway. . . all this to say that if you were around this past week or so I would have bartered food for the loan of your expertise. Cause you know, you've got those skilz :)
'Tis a very pretty car...is it fun to drive like the little white thing you had!?!?! ;) I'll bet it doesn't have a "neato seven speaker sound system!"
Ohh well........ i like it!
Very nice Claire!!!! So happy for you!
